Devon Dumplings v Exeter School
DD 267 for 6 (40overs) Exeter School 251 for 8 (40). DD won by 16 runs.
With the glorious summer weather set to continue, Dumplings had a busy week with three
matches against Schools.
Graham White was as ever in charge of the Exeter School fixture and had picked a side with
several old boys, including one set of siblings. The School also had siblings, and one family
was actually split between the two teams. With the appointed scorer unfortunately stuck on a train, Derek Hardy stood in for the first innings.
James Horler won the toss and Dumplings batted first. Opener Harry Williams enjoyed being back at School, smashing 83 off just 52 balls before he became Josh P’s second victim with the score on 106 for 3. This brought in Xavier Warmbrunn who carried on where Williams left off, eventually retiring on 71. Horler chipped in with 38 taking the score to a very respectable 267 for 6.
The School made a good stab at chasing the target, with several significant partnerships. Top
scorer was their captain Freddie C who finished on 68 before being one of old Boy Alex
James’s two run out victims. Jacob H hit a quick fire 50 off just 33. The School finished just
16 runs short. A good game, and thank you to the School for their hospitality.
Dumplings presented three caps: debutants Harry Williams and Seb Looker, and
Overseas player Xavier Warmbrunn.
