Devon Dumplings v Frogs
DD 166. The Frogs 167 for 5. The Frogs won by 5 wkts.
Devon Dumplings wrapped up their 2025 season with a lively clash against the Frogs at
the County Ground, Exeter. A traffic incident on the A30 meant late arrivals and a
forfeited toss, and the hosts were sent in under brooding skies and on a spicy surface.
Aashay Dube and James Ewen opened up in testing conditions. The new ball did plenty and
Dumplings slipped to 35–5 as the Frogs’ attack made full use of the variable bounce. A
much-needed rebuild came before lunch through a 74 run partnership between Sam Ewen, and
Owais Ahmed, who soaked up the pressure and nudged the score along.
After the break the pitch calmed and Ahmed cashed in, striking valuable runs to lift Dumplings to 166 all out - a total that at least gave the bowlers something to work with.
The Frogs’ intent was obvious from ball one of the chase: “go hard as there might be one
with your name on it.” It proved the right call. Captain Andrew Carson led the charge with a
blistering 57 off 37, setting the tone for a brisk pursuit that crossed the line well inside the 30-over mark.
Not the fairytale finish the Dumplings wanted, but plenty of fight shown in a tricky first
session and a standout performance from Ahmed. Thanks to the Frogs for another
competitive fixture, and to players, officials and supporters. On to 2026!
