Devon Dumplings v Heffle Cuckoos

Thursday 10 July 2025 at Heathcoat

DD 219 (33.4 overs) Heffle Cuckoos 220 for 3 (28.2 overs). Heffle Cuckoos won by 7 wkts.

On a scorching day at Heathcoat, James Hayter won the toss and understandably decided to bat first.

Dumplings found it hard going against Cuckoos’ accomplished spinners, soon being reduced to 25-3. But the skipper took the attack to the opposition as he blasted 96 off just 62 balls, with twelve 4s and three 6s before being given out LBW (by his dad). Partnerships of 85 with Jack Ancil (29) and 73 with Wessel Oosthuizen (32) as well as 22* from Lukanyo Metu raised a total of 219 before the last wicket fell in the 34th over.

After the break a wicket with his second ball by the pacy Dylan Evans gave Dumplings hope, but that was as good as it got and the Cuckoos knocked off the 220 runs required with only three wickets down in the 29th. A neat stumping and a catch meant James Hayter had a good day personally but it wasn’t the result we were all looking for.

Thank you to the scorers Matt White and Wendy Hardy, and to the umpires Ian Hayter and Peter Ford. Also thanks to Heathcoat CC, who have created very good temporary accommodation after the devastating fire that rased their wonderful pavilion towards the end of last season.

DD 219: (James Hayter 96, Wessel Oosthuizen 32 – Cormie 4/21, Inkpen 3/43)
Heffle Cuckoos: 220 for 3 (Michael Waller 68, Drew Beazleigh 57, James Poulson 46* - Jack
Ford 1/21)
