Devon Dumplings v Crusaders

Thursday 22 June 2023 at Shobrooke Park

DD 232. Crusaders 92. DD won by 140 runs

Devon Dumplings agreed to bat first with a strong team that included some Premier and A division players. The innings set off like a train and the score was 100 runs off 8 overs with Jason Niemand hitting 31 and Louis Morrison getting 93. Crusaders bowlers remained steadily persistent and gradually nibbled out wickets. Dumplings went from 203 for 6 to 232 all out in 29 overs leaving 16 overs unused, which was quite unusual. The Crusaders by contrast had gone from complete despair to scenes of great enjoyment as they took wickets.

Crusaders’ chase didn’t start well with a wicket falling to George Daldorph from his first ball and a second wicket falling in Cameron Kidd’s first over leaving them at 5-2. Crusaders actually batted longer than the Dumplings but were all out for 92 off 31.5 overs. Sangeeth Soham ended up with very credible figures of 3 wickets for 30 and Aashay Dube 4 wickets for 2 runs. A win for Dumplings in Richard Pyle’s last manager duties having suffered a duck and then dropping 3 catches…not a good day at the office.!!
