Devon Dumplings v N Devon

Thursday 18 August 2022 at Instow

Devon Dumplings 389 for 5 North Devon 127 for 5. DD won by 262 runs.

For our fourth game in four days the weather was overcast, but happily stayed dry.

As the North Devon side had 8 teenagers playing, their captain Darren Butler decided to field. Dumplings amassed a large score of 387 for only 3 wickets with 2 centurions retiring out. All of the batters, bar Alex Wilson-North - run out for 4- took the opportunity to score against a weakened attack. 10 different bowlers had little success. K. Rapulana(104 off 56, including ten 4s and five 6s) and H. Everett ( 100 off 55 with nine 4s) were the two retirees. James Tapp (60) and Eddie Jones (45no) played supporting roles. North Devon’s cause was not helped by some sloppy fielding.

After tea North Devon survived their 40 overs but scored only 127 for 5. 4 bowlers took one wicket each. There was a superb runout by Rapulana to dismiss Richard Clarke when he had scored 31 off 23 balls. Wilson-North fielded very well, including a full-length diving gully catch to dismiss opener Josh Arthur. A very young Noah Tovell, coming in at No. 3, saw off 90 deliveries for his 16 not out. He had very sound technique and is a good prospect for the future. Nevertheless North Devon showed no ambition to chase the Dumplings total. The most economical of our bowlers was captain Richard Tidball with one wicket for just 8 runs from his 8 overs. It was an all-round performance by the Dumplings players in a rather one-sided game.

DD: 389 for 5 (40 overs) (K. Rapulana 104, H. Everett 100, J. Tapp 60)
North Devon: 127 for 5 (40 overs) (R. Clarke 31; R. Tidball 1/8)
