Devon Dumplings v Basingstoke & N Hants

Tuesday 16 August 2022 at Budleigh Salterton

ABANDONED - RAIN

Following weeks of dry weather, the forecast for this fixture included possible rain and thunderstorms. Fortunately the morning was dry and we were able to start on time, although car trouble meant that several Dumplings were still on the way as the first ball was bowled.

Basingstoke’s openers began strongly, reaching 68 before the first wicket in the tenth over. Adam Bilston’s excellent spell of off-spin controlled the scoring and he dismissed both openers leaving the score on 74-2. Riyaz Riyaz had by this stage arrived and produced a very good spell alongside Harry Everett’s flight and spin, taking one wicket each. Harry Kandampully also produced an impressive one ball spell of seam bowling after an injury to Kiran Kumar. More to come from him next season!

Unfortunately, the rain came shortly after the drinks break and refused to stop for the rest of the day. Next year hopefully we will have better luck. This was the last Dumplings game at Budleigh’s current ground as they move up the valley next season and we wish them well with the move.
