Devon Dumplings 280 for 7 dec. UCS Old Boys 242. DD won by 38 runs.

On a sunny breezy day, Dumplings captain Richard Tidball, won the toss and elected to bat first.

The Dumplings started slowly - 13 after 5 overs - with UCS Old Boys starting with spin from both ends. Left armer Daniel Grabinar tempted Anthony Beaven who missed and was bowled. Kiran Kumar didn’t really get going, and survived a run-out shout from a direct hit. With 3 fielders close in on the leg side, Kumar then fell to a goalkeeper style one-handed catch by captain Ian Chapman at short square leg with the score on 28 for 2. Kagiso Rapulana  came to the crease and with Cameron Rowlands they put on 40 before Rowlands was LBW. UCS Old Boys persisted with their opening bowlers until the 29th over when Chapman brought himself on in the hopes of breaking the useful partnership between Rapulana and James Trapp. Rapulana reached his 50 just before lunch which was taken with the score on 132 for 3.

Trapp didn’t last too long in the afternoon session giving a relatively easy caught and bowled to Chapman. Jack Moore didn’t last long either, being caught in the deep – Grabinar’s 4th victim. Another good partnership developed between Rapulana and James Tyson with Rapulana reaching 100 with a boundary, but on 111 he played a poor shot and was LBW to Chapman with the score now 213 for 6. Ward returned and was greatly relieved to have finally got a wicket having Hayden Sharp caught for 17, having added 44 with Tyson. The declaration came a couple of overs later once Tyson had reached his 50 off just 34 balls, driving a ball to long off, with the final score was 280 for 7.

The Dumplings got off to a good start with a wicket in the first over. Siddanth Kartik, sporting red batting gloves, had his middle stump knocked clean out of the ground by Anthony Beaven and the score was 5 for 1. Grabinar, after his 20-over spell, had then opened the batting and was joined by Joe Craig, and they were soon piling on the runs, frequently finding the boundary. Grabinar reached his 50 off 38 balls just before tea at which point they were way ahead of where the Dumplings were at a similar stage. But with Tyson bowling and then Kiran Kumar, the boundaries dried up a little, especially after Kumar had Grabinar caught behind by Tidball when he was on 77 and the score was 139 for 2. They had put together a 134 partnership. Craig also reached his 50, off 60 balls, but then was bowled by Tyson. At the start of the last hour, UCS Old Boys were 193 for 3 requiring 88 off the last 20 overs. By now Rapulana was bowling and he put an end to Alex Pemberton who, having scored 34, was caught on the long off boundary. Rapulana then cleaned up the tail, taking the last 5 wickets in just over 3 overs, including 2 in successive deliveries with the score on double nelson. And so the Dumplings won by 38 runs.

DD: 280 for 7 dec. (Kagiso Rapulana 111, James Tapp 36, Cameron Rowlands 34. Daniel Grabinar 4/97)
UCS Old Boys: 242. (Daniel Grabinar 77, Joe Craig 55, Alex Pemberton 34. Kagiso Rapulana 6/17) DD won by 38 runs.
